The Operations Council

In April 2009 the Board of Trustees announced a new Governance structure to be implemented on a trial basis in FY2009-2010 which includes an Operations Council.  The purpose of the Operations Council is to address day-to-day operational issues, freeing the Board to address longer-term and strategic issues.  The Council will work in partnership with the staff to oversee operations and prepare the annual budget.  FUSN Committees, organized into six program areas, will be overseen by one of the six members of the Operations Council.

At its August 11, 2009 meeting, the Board of Trustees elected Jeannie Chaisson, Alan Cody and Pat Rohan from the Board of Trustees and Carla Erb, Laurel Farnsworth and Kim Shanks from the Congregation as the six members of the Operations Council.  The Operations Council then held its first official meeting on August 19, 2009.  At the meeting, the Council elected Pat Rohan as its Chair and Carla Erb as its Vice Chair and also voted on Program Leader responsibilities as follows:

  • Jeannie Chaisson – WORSHIP, including the Worship Committee, Chancel Committee, Music Committee and Ushers
  • Kim Shanks – EDUCATION, including the Religious Education Council, Adult Education, Coming of Age and the Nursery
  • Pat Rohan – FELLOWSHIP, including Lay Ministers, Membership Committee, Small Group Ministry, Social Activities (Ferry Beach, Sandy Island), the Fellowship Dinner and Welcoming Congregation
  • Carla Erb – OUTREACH, including Social Action, Denominational Affairs, and Communications
  • Alan Cody – STEWARDSHIP, including the Finance Committee, Annual Budget Drive, Services Auction, Holiday Fair, Planned Giving and Capital Campaigns
  • Laurel Farnsworth – FUNDAMENTALS/ADMINISTRATION, including Building and Grounds, Computer and Administrative Services, Upkeep, Memorial Committee, and Preservation Committee

The Operations Council will hold monthly meetings on the third Wednesday of each month. Each of the Program Leaders will be contacting those in their respective program areas to discuss the Council’s role. More details to come as we continue to get organized.
